Recent Israeli airstrikes on Gaza have killed a high-ranking Hamas naval operative and destroyed two operational command centers that had been used by the terror group.
This latest wave of attacks comes after a week of intense fighting between Hamas and Israel following the group’s rocket launches into the Jewish State.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported that its fighter jets had targeted the two command centers as well as a number of weapons caches and houses of operatives affiliated with the terrorist organization.
Among those killed in the airstrikes was a commander of the Hamas naval brigade, Ahmed Taha, who was responsible for organizing attacks against Israel from the Gaza Strip.
The Israel Air Force (IAF) also targeted two Hamas military posts used by the organization for carrying out terrorist activities.
According to the IDF, the command centers in question had been established by Hamas for the purpose of planning attacks against Israel.
The strikes came after the IDF had warned Gaza’s citizens of impending rocket fire from Hamas, requesting that civilians evacuate the area in advance of the fighting.
Hamas responded with its own rocket attacks, forcing the IDF to respond with counterstrikes.
In a statement, the IDF said the latest round of airstrikes had been a direct response to terrorist attacks on Israel and was meant to serve as a deterrent to future ones.
The statement added that Israel would not tolerate continued attacks against its citizens and that it would continue to take measures to ensure the safety of its people.
While the confrontation began to wind down over the weekend, the IDF said it would continue to take “all necessary measures” to protect Israeli citizens from terror threats.
