In the early hours of the morning on April 18th, 2021, several Pro-Palestinian protesters made their presence felt outside the White House. The main entrance gate of the White House was seen being shaken and vandalized with red paint containing the words “F-K Joe Biden.” This incident comes as tensions between the United States and Palestine continue to escalate.
The protesters were holding signs that said “Free Palestine” and “End U.S. Aid To Israel.” Though the exact number of protesters is unknown, they were all later removed by the Secret Service. It is believed that the vandalism and protest was to show support for the Palestinian people who have been facing human rights abuses from Israeli forces.
In recent days, there have been widespread reports of unarmed Palestinians being killed and injured in airstrikes and ground operations by the Israeli Defense Forces. According to the United Nations, over 1,000 people have been killed, including hundreds of civilians. The violence has prompted people to come together in solidarity with the Palestinian people all over the world, including the protesters outside the White House.
The actions taken by the protesters have ignited strong reactions from members of the administration. Secretary of State Antony Blinken tweeted his condemnation of the actions, stating that violence has no place in a peaceful resolution. The White House has yet to issue a statement or make any further comments regarding the incident.
Though the incident at the White House was brief, it has certainly caused debate and sparked conversation amongst leaders and citizens alike. Palestinians are in need of justice and compassion, and the American people have a responsibility to do their part and stand in solidarity with them.
