McDonald’s is making corporate goals to actively expand their business by 2027. The fast food giant has an ambitious plan to open nearly 9,000 new locations around the world by that year, with a particular focus on emerging markets such as China and Brazil. They also intend to increase their international customer loyalty program by 100 million members.
Because of this strategy, McDonald’s is in the midst of a number of very active investments. They have already pledged to build 6,000 new restaurants in the U.S. and 2,000 more internationally. This pledge does not include the additional 1,000 franchised locations McDonald’s also anticipates will open in the next seven years. The company also plans to invest $2.4 billion in China, upgrading technology, equipment, kitchen structures, and staff training to hit their global goals.
McDonald’s stated that this expansive project is necessary in order to stay competitive in the restaurant industry. Their goal is to both modernize by bringing in digital services such as mobile ordering, and increase customer loyalty.
In order to achieve their goal of 100 million customers in the loyalty program, the company plans to use targeted advertising to attract new customers from around the world. They’ve also recently unveiled a new “McDonald’s Celebrations” digital platform, allowing customers to purchase virtual gifts for friends and family in the program.
Although McDonald’s executives remain adamant that they will accomplish their 2027 goals, only time will tell how their investments will contribute to their success.
