A British boy has been reunited with his family after a mysterious six-year absence.
The mother of twelve-year-old Jake Evans reported him missing in 2015 when he was just six-years-old. He had been playing with his brother, in a park in Birmingham, before he suddenly vanished.
Extensive searches were conducted in the UK, Ireland, France, Spain and Germany over the last six years, but Jake remained missing; until this week, when a police officer in the UK spotted him walking through Birmingham city centre.
Jake’s mother said when police officers introduced themselves to Jake and told him they were looking for him, he said, “You found me?” His mother, who has been searching for her son ever since he disappeared, said, “He seemed so calm and relaxed like he had just been hanging out with his mates or something. It was so surreal.”
After a DNA test was conducted, it was determined that the boy was indeed Jake. His mother added that he remembered things about his life that they had discussed when he was six-years-old, begging the question of where and how he had been living for the last six years.
Jake’s father is from Dublin, and police are now investigating if Jake went to Ireland while he was missing. His parents and family are delighted to have him back home and have thanked the police for their hard work in reuniting them.
The mystery of what happened to Jake during his six-year absence remains unsolved, and police are encouraging anyone with information or tips to come forward and speak with them. It appears, for now at least, that Jake has returned home safely.
