Charlie Munger, the business mogul and long-time companion to Warren Buffett, passed away at 99-years-old on April 1st, 2021. Munger was considered a genius investor and was most notably known as the right-hand-man of his dear friend Buffett.
Munger was born in Omaha, Nebraska in 1924. He attended the University of California, Los Angeles and gained his law degree from Harvard Law in 1948. After school, Munger worked at various law firms and financially flourished. In 1959, he co-founded the legal and investment firm Munger, Tolles & Olson with his former boss and confidant.
In the late 60’s, Munger’s business and financial acumen caught the attention of the one and only Warren Buffett. The two quickly developed a life-long friendship and business partnership, as Buffett hired Munger to serve as vice chairman of his company, Berkshire Hathaway. With Buffett’s guidance and strategies, Munger grew Berkshire’s assets magnificently during his tenure with the company.
An avid reader and philosopher in his private life, Munger was often quoted saying, “In my whole life, I have known no wise people (over a broad subject matter area) who didn’t read all the time — none, zero.” He was a lifetime learner and invested in himself as much as he did in stocks.
Charlie Munger proved that hard work, passion, and persistence could afford even greater success in any economic climate. His unique ability to shape stock values and huge successes as one of Buffett’s team members left an unfading legacy behind. Throughout his life, Munger succeeded in creating exceptional wealth but more importantly, he was able to make a mark in the investing and business industry – something that will last for generations to come.
