The race for the Republican nomination for the 2020 Presidential election is gaining speed, and a recent Fox News poll reveals that President Donald Trump is firmly in the lead.
According to the poll, Trump has an impressive 44% of the Republican electorate locked in. Trump’s lead expands to an even greater magnitude when pitted against illustrative competition. Among the unnamed candidates, 69% of Republican voters expressed support for Trump.
While this is a huge lead, it’s not a new development for Trump. Relative to Fox News’ last poll in July, Trump’s presumptive primary lead has increased by five points, and his net-favorability rose four points in the same time period.
The poll asked respondents something a little unorthodox: aside from Trump, the poll asked voters who else they would personally support within the Republican candidates. The answers were organized into two categories: Trump supporters and non-Trump emerging. As it expresses in the poll, this answer opens the floor for more detailed examination into voter opinion.
Trump’s wide lead is impressive and is likely to continue in its current state until the actual primaries occur. But his lead isn’t entirely without challenges. Among Republican voters surveyed, 35% said they would not vote for Trump, and a full 53% expressed disinterest in Trump’s re-election bid. Additionally, the Gallup daily tracking poll puts Trump’s current approval rating at 39%.
Nevertheless, there’s no denying that Trump’s 2020 Republican primary lead is well ahead of the pack. With his growing lead in the polls, Donald Trump appears to be the clear favorite for the Republican party in the upcoming election.
