In the streaming wars, Warner Bros has now entered the fray with a reduced price for their Max subscription offering. The streaming platform, which is owned by WarnerMedia, has dropped the price to $6.99 per month for customers who agree to watch 10 minutes of ads. This offer is only available to new subscribers, although existing users have been offered a free week-long trial.
The subscription will include full access to Max’s library of movies and TV shows. The platform has a host of Warner Bros content, such as Wonder Woman 1984, Contagion, and the upcoming 2021 films Godzilla vs Kong and The Matrix 4.
Other streaming services, such as Disney+ and HBO Max, have had success pricing their services at $6.99. Netflix and Amazon Prime Video have also invested heavily in expensive original content, forcing competitors to do the same. Max’s price is a definitive way for them to compete with other services while still providing value to customers.
The ad-supported subscription model has been successful for smaller streaming companies, such as Tubi, Peacock, and Pluto TV. In addition to the US market, WarnerMedia has plans to roll out Max in other countries with ads as part of their fee-based services. This move by WarnerMedia shows that the streaming wars aren’t over yet, as more players enter the market and competition intensifies.
