Spirit Airlines is one of the biggest budget carriers in the US, and it recently announced that they will be canceling an abundance of flights in order to inspect their fleet of planes. This move comes after a rise in safety violations over the course of the last year, and the airline wants to ensure that there is no continued danger associated with their aircrafts.
The cancellations will affect passengers throughout the country as Spirit Airlines flies to more than 60 destinations. While Spirit Airlines is still expected to provide full refunds to those impacted, many people are still left annoyed or feeling inconvenienced in the process.
Though Spirit has been experiencing an increase in safety violations since the beginning of 2019, the airline insists that the inspections are not a response to any existing issues but are strictly in the realm of preventive maintenance and safety precautions. The airline also cites that the influx in inspections is related to a technological upgrade that its implementing across its fleet.
The long-term goal for canceling flights and performing the inspections is to maintain current safety protocols and standards, as well as increase and improve reliability in the future.
As tedious and annoying as it may be for everyone involved, Spirit Airlines believes that it is necessary to perform the inspections if it wants to maintain its existing safety standards and hurdles. Despite the cancellations, it’s a good sign that the airline is actively working to keep its fleet in top condition.
